Luyang Gan is a documentary photographer and a writer based in New York. He was born and raised in Nanning, China, and he was on an exile since the age of 13. He lived in 6 cities. Including Nanning, Guilin, Indianapolis, Collegeville. MN, Rochester, and NYC.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and photography at Hofstra University.  He has photographed industrial landscapes (2019-2021) in Detroit and Rhode Island for his satiric photo essay “American prospects”. He has done a photo essay on BLM protests in 2020, his works of documenting people’s lives in Chinese and Hispanic neighborhoods under Covid-19 in New York won the juror’s award of Hofstra University’s annual art show. 2020. He has done a photo essay on “Stop Asian Hate” social justice movement in 2021. He graduated from the International Center of Photography (Documentary and Photojournalism Practice program). He has an ongoing project of Chinese dissidents in New York.
